I was born Françoise Benichou in Oran, Algeria, of Jewish parents on my paternal side and Franco-Italians on my maternal side. We moved to France at the end of the Algerian war, when I was only a year and a half. I was raised in Paris, France.

In the punk wave of the early 80’s, Françoise drowned and Frankie survived.

In the 1980’s, my adopted pen name was plucked out of James Hadley Chase’s crime novel “This way for a shroud.”  Frances “Frankie” Coleman is witness to a mass murder. The hired gun on the young woman’s tail can’t pull the trigger because Frankie doesn’t judge a book by its cover.

I changed  the character’s last name Coleman to Colmane because I didn’t want people to think that I was American. At the time, I was unaware that I would move to Los Angeles, California in 1991 and find a home there for twenty one years.

I returned to Paris in 2013.

My one consistent activity in this life has been writing and caring.

Cubby Selby Junior, Wow, you remember you kindly got him to dedicate the inside jacket of his book ‘The Demon’ for me. We worked very hard on that early end of the tunnel…I woke up down in Auckland, near to the bottom of the earth, at the end of my bed, and thought of you remaining French writer under all that neon, and still locating trees. I am forty now Frankie, a grown man and everything….eeedx@hotmail.com…Write me, I am your old, not so English friend…..x
